What is Chemo?

Chemo is the “gold standard” treatment prescribed for most cancer patients.  Although the use of chemo is very common, it remains controversial because its side effects can be dangerous, surprisingly long lasting, sometimes permanent, and even life threatening.

Although chemo is commonly prescribed to treat cancer, it has not been proven to be effective and anyone considering its use should be wary of claims about its effectiveness when only "relative" numbers are used.

Chemo is a powerful drug made of toxic chemicals that is designed to kill cancer cells.  Unfortunately, it cannot tell the difference between cancerous cells and normal healthy ones, therefore it also kills large numbers of healthy, non-cancerous cells, producing undesirable, long-term and dangerous side effects.

When reading research reports or reviewing claims about chemo, it is extremely important to recognize the difference between “relative” numbers and “absolute” numbers.  You will notice that every positive claim about chemo is in "relative" numbers and not "absolute" numbers.  "Relative" numbers are extremely misleading because they greatly exaggerate results making them seem attractive when in fact they are not.

See the American Cancer Society site, “Cancer Facts and Figures” and you will see that results are stated only in “Relative” numbers.  Also see Are absolute numbers critical to understanding the truth about the effectiveness of chemo or any other drug?

There are several different classes and types of chemo drugs but they are all highly toxic to all living cells.

Cancer patients considering chemo are strongly urged to investigate side effects and effectiveness before making a decision.
